Happy New Year! Can you believe it? 2025! It seems like just yesterday we were all waiting for the world to come crashing down when the clock struck midnight for Y2K. Kids under age 25 won’t know what I’m talking about and probably will have to read about it in the history books. But we made it, and here we are 25 years later. Just imagine, a full quarter of a century has passed…in the blink of an eye…and now I’m starting to sound old 😊
A new year brings new possibilities, new hopes, new resolutions…how long do those usually last?
We like things that are new. That new car smell is one of the most expensive smells there is, and it is nice. But how long does that really last? Can you buy a car air freshener in the “new car scent”? I’m sure that must be possible, but is that real or is it just a cheap imitation of something else you’re looking for? Nothing new lasts forever.
One of the greatest lessons in life is to learn to be content with what you have, no matter how much or how little that may be, and no matter how new or how old. I’m sure many of us were taught this lesson when we were young, but did we really learn it? Aren’t some of us still tempted by that idea of winning the lottery? I mean if I won I would do it differently…I wouldn’t lose it all like those other dummies…! Yeah right 😊
Be content. With what you have. No matter what. Have we learned this yet?
At Bethany our maintenance team used to say that we’ve been doing so much for so long with so little that we could likely do anything with nothing. What a great attitude. I hope we give them more resources and tools now to do their jobs than back in those days, but this is another good lesson, always do the best you can with what you have. Do your best with what you have at the moment.
So here we go, 2025. Are we looking for something new or different this year? Maybe we should be. Maybe we should be looking for contentment, which is often always available. It’s just a choice. Can we make it our resolution to choose contentment this year? Now that all the gifts have been unwrapped, January has arrived, how many of us are truly fulfilled? Choose contentment, it’s free and if it’s free, it’s for me. Happy New Year!
